This tour combines the rural landscape of the Saloia region located on the outskirts of Lisbon, the beauty of one Portugal´s most important monuments – The Convent of Mafra and a visit to the Quinta de Santana estate for a wine tasting.
The village of Mafra is famous for its baroque convent, a fantastic masterpiece buit by King John the V to rival the basilica of Saint Peter´s in Rome, we´ll visit the royal chambers, Basilica and library with a very special kind of guardians…a colony of bats…
The blood and sweat of 40000 men were necessary to buid the convent of Mafra and inspired theater plays, books and movies.
After visiting the convent we´ll head to the Santana winery, famous for making fine wines profiting from the atalantic micro- climate with cool mornings and warm afternnons.
By the way…Santana´s winery is one of the few to produce Pino Noir in Portugal…
With a resident winemaker, we´ll have a wine tasting and discover the fascinating world of Portuguese wine.
To finish, we´ll visit the “Sobreiro” a living museum that displays the traditions, crafts and work of the region back on the days.
Wine and tradition, a perfect day.
